AEC PhD student Thamanna Vasan recently led a team of interns from Oregon State University and Southern Oregon University as a Data Science for the Public Good graduate fellow and mentor.
The team worked closely with rural community stakeholders and the Eastern Oregon Border Economic Development Board (EOBED) to identify possible barriers to economic opportunity in the Eastern Oregon border region. The results of the research will inform place based workforce and economic development policies pursued by the EOBED Board and the State of Oregon.
Much of the work this summer was done virtually, including stakeholder meetings. Data Science for the Public Good is a coalition of five public universities across three states (Oregon State University, Iowa State University, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, and Virginia State University).
