OSU AEC Faculty Present at AAEA Annual Meeting

Oregon State's Applied Economics Department was well-represented at the at the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA) 2018 Annual Meeting, held in August in Washington DC.

Professor John Antle, himself a 2002 AAEA Fellow, gave the Annual Fellows Address on “Data, Economics, and Computational Agricultural Science.” This was one of only four Plenary Sessions held during the meeting. 

In addition:

  • Assistant Professor Nadia Streletskaya presented on why people are willing to pay less for organic wine;
  • Professor Dave Lewis talked about the environmental value of salmon;
  • Assistant Professor Sam Bell discussed auctions for payments for ecosystem services in Malawi;
  • Department Head and Professor Jennifer Alix-Garcia told people how trade affects city growth in Mexico, and why prohibiting remittances to refugees hurts both them and their hosts; and
  • Professor Jeff Reimer moderated a session on linking global to local sustainability. 

Also, OSU's undergraduate Quiz Bowl Team finished 3rd out of 37 teams at the annual national tournament held as part of the AAEA Annual Meeting.
