Dr. Chen’s area of expertise is spatial/rural economics with a focus on the sustainability of rural economic development from the perspective of coupled human-natural system interactions. His current research projects focus on how rural economic development is affected by environmental policies and the exposure to natural hazards.  His research area also includes dynamic and spatial simulation of land use change.
