James Sterns has just been selected to receive the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association’s Outstanding Choices Article Award for “Is the Emerging U.S. Hemp Industry Yet Another Boom–Bust Market for U.S. Farmers?”!
Choices is the principal outreach vehicle of AAEA. Choices provides current coverage on economic implications of food, farm, resource or rural community issues directed toward a broad audience. Articles are peer reviewed. Choices is a free, online-only publication, and each year Choices gives an award for the most outstanding article.
Professor Sterns concludes is his winning article that "beyond 2020, the economic dynamics of this multifaceted emerging market will create both opportunities and significant threats and risks for farm profitability. The long-term prognosis is generally favorable across a range of product categories and downstream markets, but the road getting there is likely to be a rough-and-tumble ride, with as many losers and there will be winners."
